Professor John Kemp

John is the inventor of the OWEL concept having come from a Merchant Navy background. He holds an Extra Master Certificate and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree. He is a Fellow and Gold Medallist of the Royal Institute of Navigation and also a Fellow of the Nautical Institute.

John has conducted many consultancy commissions concerned with maritime safety and protection of the marine environment for legal, industrial and government interests and he is an author of books, papers and articles on maritime subjects.

John oversees the technical and theoretical aspects of the project.

Chris George

Chris is a retired Royal Navy Weapon Engineer having joined as an Artificer Apprentice in 1961 and leaving as a Lieutenant Commander in July 1994 on completion of his engagement.

His Naval appointments, both seagoing and ashore, developed skills in Engineering, Research and Development, Project Management, Information Technology and Personnel Management.

As well as being a Director of OWEL, Chris runs Sycamore Innovation Management, a company bringing new innovations from concept to the market. He is currently involved in several Renewable Energy projects.

Chris oversees the Administration and Financial Management of the project.

Anthony Derrick

Tony is a founder and joint Managing Director of IT Power, a leading Sustainable Energy and Climate Change consultancy, where he has worked on energy and development projects in more than 50 countries world-wide since 1981.

Prior to co-founding IT Power he completed research into solar energy at University College, Cardiff and undertook solar array design for spacecraft at British Aerospace, Bristol.

He has been an adviser to the United Nations International Trade Centre on the development of markets and trade in renewable energy technologies, and he has undertaken renewable energy market assessments and pre-investment studies for the World Bank, ADB, EU and UNDP.

Tony is author/co-author of several books on renewable energy and 100+ published papers on energy and the environment.

Tony is responsible for the Commercialisation of the concept and Corporate Negotiations.

Jamie O'Nians

Jamie is a Mechanical engineer with a wide range of UK and overseas experience in renewables, commercial and humanitarian sectors. He has expansive knowledge of R&D, technical project planning and management, personnel, logistical and financial management.

Jamie has worked with organisations such as DfID, the World Bank and the UN and has extensive project management experience, including dti and Carbon Trust initiatives. He has key experience in offshore renewables, undertaking design engineering and project management of several wave and tidal technologies.

Jamie was involved in the sea trials of the Seaflow marine current turbine, operating and testing the device on site off the Devon coast near Lynmouth.

Jamie is also involved in several UK Small Hydropower projects, having been an expert member of the European Thematic Network of Small Hydro Power. He also represents IT Power in a number of working groups for ocean technology.

Jamie is the Technical Project Manager for this next phase of the OWEL project.

Mike Nairn

Mike has worked for over twenty years spinning out technology into start up companies and in 2005 established his own successful business consultancy practice offering transition management services to investee companies and investment realisation advice to investors.

Previously Mike worked at BTG plc, a world leader in the management of and commercialization of novel early-stage technologies, where he was Finance Director and Company Secretary of several technology investee companies.

From 1992 until 1997, Mike was Finance Director and Company Secretary of Torotrak, an engineering development company which has developed a novel infinitely variable transmission for the automotive industry.

Mike holds an MA in Economics and Business Administration from Trinity College, Dublin.

Mike is overseeing the Commercial aspects of the project and co-ordinating the necessary fundraising.
