The delivery of a business solution providing the economic generation of electrical power from ocean waves, resulting from the development and commercialisation of the unique OWEL technology
OWEL is pleased to announce that the final design of the Marine Demonstrator is complete and is to be sent out to various shipyards & fabricators to tender for the construction of the main structure of their wave energy converter. The marine demonstrator is being developed as part of a £5M project part funded by the Technology Strategy Board.
The design is the culmination of two year’s work which has largely focused on the modelling and optimisation of the machine for energy capture. This work has resulted in a modified design that offers significantly improved efficiency, survivability and constructability, thereby reducing risks and improving the return for investors.
The motions and loads proved challenging to model and new techniques were pioneered in Matlab/Simulink and Ansys CFX by project partners IT Power and Mojo Maritime to deliver loads to Ramboll to carry out the engineering design. [Read more…]
